MRI
has a Board of Trustees, which includes a 16-member Board of Directors
composed of business leaders from Kansas City and around the country.
MRI's staff totals about 1,800 technical and support personnel, with 350 based in Kansas City and more than 230 staff members at MRI operations in Florida, and Rockville and Frederick, Maryland, and other locations.
Some 1,230 MRI staff are located at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, which the Institute operates and manages for the Department of Energy.
MRI staff hold basic and advanced degrees in such diverse disciplines
as chemistry, biology, physics,
engineering, applied statistics, transportation, computer programming, clinical psychology, mathematics, economics, and numerous other fields.

MRI's Kansas City headquarters facility
houses 135 laboratories. Located south of Kansas City is MRI's
Deramus Field Station,
a 78-acre site used for agriculture, biotechnology, and other
field testing. MRI's Natural Products and Nutritional Research Center, a 160-acre farm in Bates County, Mo., serves as a research extension for Deramus. The research center conducts agronomic and horticultural seed research, studies of farming practices, and other crop research.
MRI also operates office and laboratory facilities in Palm Bay, Florida; Frederick, Maryland; and Rockville, Maryland.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, has been managed and operated by MRI for the U.S. Department of Energy since its inception in 1977.
Continually updating its facilities, MRI currently operates more than $30 million worth of instrumentation and support equipment at its Kansas City headquarters.
Over the years, MRI's expertise has been applied to more than 20,000 projects for over 6,500 clients.
