Chemical Repository Purchases, Ext. 1510

On May 15, 2009, the NCI Chemical Carcinogen Reference Standards Repository inventory was reduced to 70 chemicals. The most frequently ordered chemicals will continue to be available and their stocks replenished.
Chemical offerings will be reviewed on a regular basis to accommodate
current research trends.

Chemicals discontinued by the NCI Repository will be available through
a separate repository at Midwest Research Institute (MRI) until chemical inventory is depleted.

The MRI Repository is not associated with the NCI Repository. Orders for the respective repositories must be placed and shipped separately.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) contracts with MRI to operate a repository that supplies standard reference-grade compounds for cancer research. The goal of the repository is to provide well-characterized reference standard materials, analytical data, and health and safety information to the carcinogenesis research community.

Midwest Research Institute

MRI operates the Chemical Carcinogen Reference Standard Repository, which supplies standards of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), PAH metabolites, aromatic amine metabolites, and other compounds of interest.

To effectively serve the carcinogenesis research community, the repository is required to:

  • Procure chemical samples
  • Provide for their safe and stable storage until requested by users
  • Repackage the chemicals to meet user needs
  • Ensure the uniformity of all samples
  • Ship samples to users along with the appropriate analytical documentation and safe handling instructions.

All of these operations are performed in a safe manner and in compliance with current NIH, IATA, OSHA, and DOT requirements.

National Cancer Institute

The Cancer Etiology Branch is eager to be made aware of publications resulting from the use of chemicals it has supplied. In light of budgetary restrictions, it is frequently necessary and appropriate for a program to justify its existence. If you find this service useful, please take the extra time to keep us informed of your published results. Please send reprints of published work to the address below:

Indicate in the Materials & Methods section of your publications that "compounds were obtained from the National Cancer Institute Chemical Carcinogen Reference Standard Repository."

Handbook of Analytical and Spectral Data for PAHs

The publication entitled Handbook of Analytical and Spectral Data for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Volume I, Benzo[a]pyrene and its Metabolites is available through the NCI Repository. This book contains data for over 50 benzo[a]pyrene metabolites: chemical and physical property data; thin-layer and high performance liquid chromatography; ultraviolet/visible, infrared, and proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; mass spectrometry; and synthesis references.

For more information, call (816) 753-7600, extension 1510 or 1639, or email RepositoryPI@mriresearch.org.
